Summer Evening Paragliding – Video
Just a short video of a really nice evening paraglider flight on a local hill.
Paragliding at Jenkin Hill in the Lake District
My first thermic flight this year. There wasn’t much wind but there were plenty of thermals alowing me my first trip up to cloudbase this year. The views were spectacular along the whole range of mountains from Blencathra in one direction to Skiddaw the other. It was pretty cold up there, especially as in the rush to get up the hill, I’d left my fleece trousers in the car! hence the “very thin” walking trousers you see in the vid. Brrrr… freezing!
The bleeping sound you can hear in the background is the vario. This is an electronic altimeter which gives out different sounding bleeps to indicate how quickly I’m climbing (or falling!). The higher the pitch – the faster I’m climbing. It can be difficult to sense this when you’re quite high as there is no reference at the side of you so it proves very useful when looking for thermals.
Hope the video gives you an idea what its like flying high above the mountains in this beautiful part of the UK. Looking forward to getting back in the air very soon for some more filming.
